Children's Book Week at Book Culture
The first week of May is Children's Book Week! Celebrate Children's Book Week with Book Culture on Columbus from May 1st to May 7th. Write a kid's pick for your favorite book and we'll say thank you with a $5.00 gift card and add it to our display so others can see it!
Argyle Fox is a creative creature who loves a good game, but when he takes his rather less-than-durable playthings outside, they whoosh away. Thanks to his mother's passion for knitting (how do you think the main character got his name?), Argyle thinks of ways to save the day -- and grows quite resourceful in the process. Hear author/illustrator Marie Letourneau read her book "Argyle Fox" on Saturday, May 6 at 10:30 a.m. at Bank Street Book Store and enjoy a positive story of perseverance and outcomes. The Art of Writing with Chris Raschka
Bank Street Book Store welcomes artist/author Chris Raschka on Sunday, May 7 at 1:00 p.m. for a very special reading/sharing of his new book "Doorman's Repose" In the book, Chris imagines the lives of city dwellers who reside within a slightly past-its-prime apartment building in New York City. He draws (and draws on) characters with the insight of someone curious about stories that might unwind behind the walls of a building in the great metropolis of New York. Have fun hearing the story as Chris describes creating "Doorman's Repose" in his unique style of words and pictures that contain both humor and a hint of magic.
Meet author Kate McMullan and hear her read her newest book (just in time for Mother's Day!) "Mama's Kisses" at Bank Street Book Store on Saturday, May 13 at 10:30 a.m. This rhyming story is a perfect addition to bedtime routines everywhere -- and is perfectly relatable to every parent ready to call it a day. The animal mamas in the book know it is time to say goodnight even if their animal babies might disagree. The end result is a successful, peaceful, and (finally) sleep-filled night in the jungle -- with lots of kisses in the end, of course. Kate will sign copies of her book for kids to give their own mamas for Mother's Day.
